LOCAL THREADS AND THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION - NEW!
     Recommended for multiple grade levels
The story of the textile mill industry is really the story of the industrial revolution in America. Most people are familiar with the story of the large mills in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. However, what was happening in small communities is the more common story of textile manufacturing. This is the story that is told in this curriculum. The total curriculum is designed to walk students through the process of creating a fabric from begninning to end. Each unit focuses on one of the following communities: Queensbury, Greenwich, Warrensburg, Thurman and Glens Falls. Each unit (as well as many individual lessons) will stand by itself and may be used separately. Hands-on components, primary document questions, videos and display materials are included in the materials which are selected to address multiple intelligences in the classroom. Although the curriculum is primarily designed for the 5th through 8th grade levels, there are lessons in each unit that may be used for the primary grades. A resource guide listing where more information may be obtained regarding the known textile mills throughout Warren, Washington and northern Saratoga counties is also provided. The curriculum units may be brought in by the museum educator as an outreach program or you may rent unit kits to be used in the classroom. For more information and to discuss what may be most appropriate for your class, please contact our educator.
