Next Hometown Memories III planning meeting

The next planning meeting for the upcoming book, Hometown Memories III, The Next Generation on Tuesday, November 16th at the museum. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Volunteers are still needed to serve on the editorial committee, to contact high school graduation classes, and of course, to provide recollections and photos of the 1950s and 60s. Wine & Chocolate Tasting
November 18, 5:30 – 8 pm
The 2011 Tasting will feature a mix of more than 60 domestic and imported wines selected by Adirondack Wine Merchants from the myriad labels available through regional distributors. This year the offerings will include a wide range of varietals, whites and reds from dry to sweet, ports, and dessert wines.The event also will feature gourmet chocolates from Barkeater Chocolates, The Chocolate Mill and Lake Champlain Chocolates; baked goods from Catering & Cakes by Bella, Dickinson’s Delights, Rock Hill Bakehouse, and Sweetie Pies; and cheeses provided by Homestead Artisans, Argyle Cheese, and Sugarloaf Farm. Attendees may purchase food products at the event and order wines from Adirondack Wine Merchants, if they desire. Fiddler Frank Orsini will provide live entertainment throughout the evening. Also included are a silent auction of wine-themed gift baskets and a live auction of a Finger Lakes wine weekend and a reproduction of the Glens Falls Insurance Company trade sign featured this fall in Pottery Barn. Wine enthusiasts may also opt for “A Finer Experience,” an exclusive wine tasting from 5:00-6:00 pm., featuring Josh London of Polaner Wine Selections. Participants will taste a selection of wines that are sure to please one’s palate, while sampling treats supplied by Bistro Tallulah. After 15 years as baker/owner of Rock Hill Bakehouse, Josh now works for importer Douglas Polaner specializing in artisanal wines from the US and abroad. Josh brings the same level of enthusiasm and knowledge to wines as he did to artisan bread. While his travels have taken him to the most premium vineyards and regions of the world Josh comes tonight to share his joy of finely crafted foods and wines so that you may then share them with your holiday guests. Wines to be tasted: Giacomo Conterno Cascina Francia Barolo, 1999; Kongsgaard Chardonnay, 2008; Susana Balbo Late Harvest Malbec; Takasago Ginga Shizuku Divine Droplets Junmai Daigingo Sake; Gemstone Facets, 2007.
Tickets to this special tasting, which must be purchased in advance, provide admission to the rest of the evening’s events.
Tickets cost $30 per person in advance; $35 per person at the door. Admission to “A Finer Experience” is $75 per person. Attendees are encouraged to make reservations to go out to eat afterwards in one of Glen Falls restaurants, many of which are offering special discounts to ticket holders. Friday evening ticket holders also will receive a discount at LARAC’s Holiday Shop. Family Program: Giving Thanks for Thanksgiving (and Sarah Josepha Hale)
Saturday, November 19, from 1-3pm
This event will feature a reading in the DeLong House library, followed by crafts and refreshments. Cost is $3 per child. Accompanying adults are free. Due to limited space, reservations are requested and can be made by calling the Chapman Historical Museum at 793-2826.
American/New York History Reading Group – NEW!

Annual Meeting
Wednesday, November 30, 5:30 - 7 pm
Join us for the Annual Meeting of the Glens Falls - Queensbury Historical Association. At 6 pm Curator Jillian Mulder will lead a gallery tour of our current exhibition, Elevating the Everyday, which she organized. The formal meeting will start at 6:30 , concluding with the election of new trustees. Refreshments will be served.
