1/27/2019  2:30 pm to 4 pm

Chapman Curator, Jillian Mulder, who organized the summer 2018 exhibit at the museum, will present an illustrated talk that features photos she took of advertising signs from throughout the region.

Expanding upon her “Secret Life of Signs” exhibition, this talk will provide a visual tour of unique and historic signage within the greater upstate region.

Ranging south from the Capital District to points north in the Adirondacks, all manners of business signage will be featured.  Included will be restaurants and diners, motels and beauty parlors, dry cleaners and department stores, and so much more.

Discussion will reflect not only the attributes of these fascinating signs but also what insights they provide into changing roadside America and popular culture.  Ms. Mulder will take attendees on an armchair road trip to see fine examples not included in the recent exhibit. The public is invited to experience a century of history as witnessed and recounted by the signs still standing.
