Black History Month Storytime
10am at the Chapman, free
Katherine, Dorothy, Mary, and Christine were all good at math. Really good. And it was their understanding of numbers that helped them do what seemed impossible. They were women, and they were African-American, and they lived during a time when being black and a woman limited what they could do. But Katherine, Dorothy, Mary, and Christine were hardworking and persistent and most important, smart. And that’s why NASA hired them to do the math that would one day send the United States into space for the very first time.
This book is good for ages 5-9. This program is free and does not require registration.

Searching for Timbuctoo
Film Screening and Q&A with filmmaker Paul Miller
7pm at the Queensbury Room, Queensbury High School, free
Searching for Timbuctoo tells the little-known story of a Black settlement, established in the wilds of upstate New York, that brought together a group of ardent abolitionists willing to risk their fortunes, their families, and their futures to destroy slavery. Little did they know that by coming together, they would help tear the nation apart.
The film also follows archaeologist Dr. Hadley Kruczek-Aaron, and her team, on a month-long expedition to unearth the long-lost settlement buried deep in the rugged Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.
