The Hudson River flows 315 miles through eastern New York, originating in the Adirondacks and emptying into the Atlantic Ocean at New York City. With a rich history as a crucial route for trade and military movements during the American Revolution, the river also served as a vital artery during the Industrial Revolution. It connected to the Erie, Champlain, and Feeder Canals, helping communities like Glens Falls to prosper. Seneca Ray Stoddard (1843-1917) documented its journey, capturing photographs from the river’s headwaters down to the estuary where fresh and saltwater converge.
