When Seneca Ray Stoddard (1843-1917) moved to Glens Falls in the 1860s, the village was teeming with activity. Two decades later, this was still the case, with local industries shipping goods along the Feeder Canal and new commercial businesses springing up along both sides of Glen Street.
Glen Street has served as the heart of Glens Falls since the village was settled. In the early 1880s, the unpaved street was grooved by carriage travel, the first trolley tracks wouldn’t be laid until the 1890s. The photographs in this exhibit show local businesses, Crandall Block, the original Glens Falls Insurance Company building, the Rockwell House, the fire of 1884, and a glimpse of the day-to-day activities along the village thoroughfare.
